1973 19-6

I recently purchased a 1973 19-6.  It has twin 19 gallon gas tanks mounted underneath the center console.  Was this a stock arrangement, or were there other options?  Mine is powered by a 1989 88 hp Evinrude SPL which works great.  It goes very fast.  I see that this model is rated for even higher power.   I think it is a great, safe boat.  I live on Eastern Long Island.  Ron

I have a 19 6 and use a Blacx Max 200.
With me my wife and two kids I cruise across the flats in Key West at  
around 40.
 My gas tank is mounted under the console, but I'm thinking of putting an aditional tank up in the bow area.

I have a 1972 19-6 that I am rebuilding right now (well, am in the middle of anyway- have not touched it in a couple months :(   Mine had been modified, and not well, to put a tank under the floor.  I am going to install another under-deck tank, but do a better install.

I would be interested in how fast you are running with that 88 as I am not sure what I am going to use for power yet.  I want decent speed but more important is a good cruise speed and fuel economy (with these gas prices!).  

Jason, when you say you cruise at 40, what type of RPMs are you turning?  Ever clocked top speed?  I will be hanging used power on the boat, what is available will be part of what determines what I get.

I have not let it run wide open due to the lack of support on my wifes part, but I have a lot of room left. My Black Max is an older model, early 80's.

 I'll look at my RPS next time I'm out. I know the pitch on my prop is a little off but that's because I use it for Crab traps as well. (Heavy Load)

 My fuel consumption isn't bad the run from my house to Marvins Key is about 30 min, and we do it 2-3 times before fill up. My tank holds around 15-20.
