Bottom Painting an 04 Osprey 200

I need to paint the hull on my 04 Osprey 200.  It's never been painted.  I have mixed feelings about painting it but I've got access to a mooring that will make like a whole bunch easier.  I'm new to this so does anyone have any advice on prep and product choices?  Do I need to sand the hull a bit or is there an undercoat that I can apply to the hull without sanding?  Also, is there any sort of guide on how far up the hull to paint or should I just mark the waterline with a grease pencil the next time I'm out.

Mark the waterline and come about an inch above all the way around.  The best way for the paint to adhere is sanding the hull with 80 grit paper. Here in Savannah, a lot of folks choose pettite protect, which is a two part epoxy primer, and  pettite ultima paint for hauling in and out or pettite trinidad for boats that stay in the water year round.  :)

Dont leave it in the water unless you really have to. I know its a PITA to trailer but trust me the boat will last longer and look better longer if its not in the water especially if its not behind YOUR house. Just my .02
