what do you think about putting a 90 hp on a 222, and what if it was ran with a hand throttle instead of a wheel

Is the boat a FB? or a 12 degree hull? I have driven a FB with a 90 and it did ok - no speed record by any means but that type hull isn't made to "jump up on plane", so as you accellerate the hull just keeps going faster and faster.  I think to get the 12 degree hull on plane you would be stressing the 90 to the max.

Not only could it stress a 90 too much but being a Tiller motor I think would be pretty hairy for such a long boat.  It'd be a great workout though :pirat:

I think if you had a 90 with a tiller, all you would do is wish you had something else...

115 is about the minimum you would want, and a 150 is a nice choice on the Osprey series, and go cable or hydraulic steering.

Just my $0.02.

mercury has a kit that adapts a tiller onto outboards up to 250 hp... that would be a ton of deck space

What you cant see in the picture is the guy probably has 21" biceps!! I know Mercury has some sort of power assist or counter torque device; I just cant imagine running a 90hp+ tiller outboard all day and dealing with the torque! After a while you would wind up looking like a giant left handed fiddler crab!

Went duck hunting many years ago down in Laguna del Madre, Mexico. They ran 60 hp tiller steering Johnsons on their 20 ft aluminum big jons. Only reason, so the operator could get his weight to the back, and spin the boat in close circles at WOT 'till she finally jumped on plane in the skinny water (and thats what is was, 3ft max.depth over 30 miles) Kinda neat, the boat after going in circles in the shallow water would finally jump on plane, at an  angle, and get up and run. Neat experience.

Sorry somewhat OT....
