Buying an AS, but cracks in transom
« on: September 26, 2005, 08:45:01 PM »
Hey, whats up out there. :D 1st timer.
I'm interested in buying a 19'6" AS 140 Evinrude, but it has two 1/4" x 4" cracks in the transom where the transom meets the gunales on both sides. I'm just wondering if this is fixable or am I getting in over my head? :?  I don't have pictures, but maybe I can get some.
Thanks for looking

I forgot to say that I put all my weight (220) on the transom and it did not flex or even budge , but I'm sure that's like kicking the tire of a used car. What's a good test for transom stability?
Thanks again :D

Try to tilt the motor up and down making abrupt stops. See if there is flex or wobble in the transom.

Hey out there. Well, I bought a different boat. A 1984 Aquasport 17' with a 115 v4 johnson. It needs some TLC but its ready for the water now, And there it will be tomorrow. Only a few hours on recent rebuild and compression was 100 to 105 in all cyl.
Thanks for looking at my thread and I'll be here for a while.
