C'est La Vie Project, 1982 22 CCP rebuild /reborn

Well with my de-construction almost done, I figured I'd start posting some pix as she comes back together.

This is the C'est La Vie, shes an '82 22'er, been in the family since '84.  Grew up running her out of Sanibel in the winter and Cape Negro, NS in the summer, past 16 years shes run around the southern coast of Maine.


This stared out simple enough, just gonna fix some soft spots in the deck, I'd been putting off for a while


then I checked out the transom


Then I looked @ the stringers


So I find myself left with a hull-up rebuild. The practical part of me says let her go, but I got too much history & great memories to walk away.

Just have the finishing touchs to wrap up on the de-construction. Got access off & on to a heated barn lined up for this winter. Hope to get the stringers re-capped next weekend and go from there.  Really leaning towards a re-design w/ a pilot house, as I do alot of offshore fishing, & late spring or early fall is no fun in a CC up here. Looking forward to sharing my progress and spitballing ideas with you guys.

So thats what the inside of capn johns CCP looks like.How tall are those stringer boxes? That 20 degree deadrise makes a big difference. They look huge. Can you put a tape on them?

Well kinda like that Lewis, except I think I have removed most of the foam from outboard of the stringers.  They're big muthas tho...  :afro:

Just got done laying mine up. average about 16 inches tall and 8 inches wide at the hull and 4.5 at the top. They are huge compared with all else out there. tab the insides of the stringers to the hull since you got the tops cut off, makes them way stronger. I have so much time and money in my 222 ccp I will never recover and am just burnt out on it.

Good idea, Had thought about filling the voids at the hull w/ putty, might as well put some cloth over them while I'm at it.  I was suprized not find any separtation in along there, considering how wet the old foam was and that water was frozen for a few months every year.

Yea, biggest thing is getting it dry. my ccp has not seen a drop of water in over 3 years and the foam was still wet when I pulled it. that seam was a bear to get the foam out off, used a flat screw driver and there was alot of trapped water in there. Anthing you do is just going to make the boat that much stronger. I wish the outside of my hull was clean and undamaged as then I could see the light at the end of the tunnel but I have as much exterior hull work as inside structural work. Good luck on your build
