Lower engine mounts

Your not kidding Bob I don't think I've ever seen a pair being sold by them self.

They are the mounts that hold the motor to the bracket that mount to your bolt they are on every motor and same as Bob I've looked at or dealt with them in my life either on any boat I've ever worked on.  Sounds like to me you had either a seal issue or an electrolysis issue for those plates to corrode like that.

From what a found so far doing research it's not common.

And im sure it's not electrolysis

Now the fun part is finding new ones...

Good news i think,i went by my boat mechanic who i never see unless it's some thing i can't do,which isn't to often.

He said thats a fairly common prob on older motors,he told me $1oo per mount and labor i'll be at $3oo total i think i can live with that

So I took one of your pics, copied it to my photobucket account, resized it, and this is what we have:


So it looks like the drive shaft "tube" is bolted to the mid-section, probably with some sort of rubber bushing inside the tube, at this point.

My guy told me there's a shift rod or something like that,can't remember but when the mounts get real bad it twists like a pretzel.

What you have beneath the cover is a rubber mount which connects the motor to the steering arm.
It's made of rubber in order to avoid the transmission of screw vibrations to the boat.
