I am considering replacing the twin OMC Seadrive 140's on my '89 osprey 250. Any thoughts on repowering? 1 large single versus twins: E-tec vs Yamaha 4 strokes etc... I would appreciate any comments. thanks, Terry (new member, owner of a 20' AS striker as well)
Hi The suzuki 225 weighs 580 lbs, the yamaha weighs 604 lbs, the Suzuki 300 604 lbs ( Yamaha 804 lbs ).Regards
To maintain the balance of the hull your replacement options need to tip the scales at nearly the same weight as the I/O's. First determine the weight of the equipment you are removing. Second, determine how you want the outboard(s) installed; Porta-Bracket, Flotation bracket, or cut-out the transom. If you choose a bracket, you will need the over-all weight of the the new power to be 60 to 120 pounds lighter to keep the boat balanced. That may be hard to achieve with twin engines. My 225 Suzuki weighs in at 460 lbs (as I recall). Weight is major consideration and know the brackets exaggerate the affect.MD
