Readable coast guard capacity plate for 200 CCP
« on: April 09, 2007, 08:31:42 AM »
Just wanted to see if anyone out there has a readable capacity plate for the 200 CCP.  I can take a guess at the numbers based on the capacity plate thread that was discussed, but would really like to have the factory numbers.  If someone has one that can be read please let me know and maybe you can snap a picture and e-mail it to me.  Thanks.

This thread is about 2 years old and we have had several 200 CCP's join the group.  Just wanted to see if anyone would have these numbers now.

I'm looking for the same data on my 200 XF.  I wonder if the capacity and HP rating is the same since they are essentially the same hull.

Has anyone thought of contacting NMMA or the Coasties for the capacity/HP ratings?  Even though AS is no longer, they have the info in a database, and I think they would be more than happy to provide it.  At NMMA, contact Alice Brown at (312) 946-6200.  She's a wonderful lady and may be able to help.

For the Coasties, try Chief Warrant Officer Douglas Luper at (202) 372-1101.

Since obviously these are safety/insurance/piece of mind issues that are being addressed, I would imagine they would want to help...and they DO have the specs...but I don't!

Was NMMA around in 1981? I didn't think they were so I didn't bother looking onto contacting them.

John,

Mine's readable... barely.  Will post when the sun comes up.  Hope all's well with the family.

Twenty-four years exposed to the weather has rendered the plate mostly unreadable.  The capacity states, "7 persons or 1000 lbs".  As you know, this is not engraved but simply painted on.  Now I'll get out the magnifying glass and see if I can read the rest.  Next line ends with the word gear.

Doesn't help much, I know, and sorry if this is a dead end.

Tried NMMA today for my 91. Spoke with Alice. She is indeed nice.  :thumright:
She stated their records only go back 10 years. That will work for some, but not me.

Chief Luper was not at his desk. I will try again tomorrow.

In the "photo Gallery" section of this site, under "advertisments", rickk has the original 1978 200 ccp brochure posted. Although it doesnt state # of passengers, it does state a maximum weight capacity of 1800 lbs. I have a printout copy on board just in case the coast guard ever come aboard and question the capacity.

To anyone following this thread... I found a CCP with a readable (barely) CG plate.  I have pieced together the wording on the plate, which is posted below.  This plate is attached to a 1986 222 CCP.  The 200 has a capacity of 7 persons and 1000 lbs.  The capacity stated in the brochure that kaptainkoz refers to is the maximum capacity for the boat including persons, motor, gear.  As for a photo, I took a few but they don't look so good.  Also, my head is spinning from the photobucket thing.  No offense to the site or administrators, I'll just have to sit down and read how we upload photos one more time.  And I was so used to the "old way" that it got easy!  BTW, the plate is off boat serial number ASPA05921586 if anyone is keeping track.  I wonder if there is any way to get a list of all AS serial numbers ever produced so we can check them off if we find them... nevermind.  Enjoy! <!-- s:santa: -->:santa:<!-- s:santa: -->

Here is the exact wording, line by line, on the capacity plate.  The AS is an '86:

MAXIMUM CAPACITIES
9 Persons or 1200 LBS.
2000 LBS. Persons, Motor, Gear
245.0 H.P. Motor
This boat complies with US Coast Guard safety
standard in effect on the date of certification
Model: 222 CCP O/B              AQUASPORT, INC.
                                         HIALEAH, FLORIDA
Design Compliance with BIA Requirements Below is
Verified: MFGR. Responsible For Production Control

Load and HP capacity/Level Flotation/Steering and Electrical System
Compartment Ventilation/International Lights

Certified BIA (emblem)      National Marine Manufacturers Association

Surprised nobody mentioned this before, but after looking for several parts myself, some members pointed me towards Surplus Marine. They have at least 2 locations, in Ft. Myers and Sarasota.  The Ft. Myers store had a small box of Coast Guard capacity plates.  Don't remember which models they had, but it's probably worth paying them a visit to see.
