My first boat and it's an Aquasport!
« on: September 20, 2009, 08:54:27 AM »
Hello Classic Aquasport members;

I just boat my first boat on Tuesday and I'm pleased to say it's a gently used 2004 Aquasport 225 Explorer.  She's equipped with a 200hpdi Yamaha.  My family is thrilled with the purchase (three of my four kids wanted to campout in the cabin last night), and my buddies can't wait to go fishing on it.

Many thanks to seabob4 who gave me some great advice during my decision process, and a real education from his many posts.....he's a great resource....Thanks again, Bob!

As it's a little late in the season I'm not sure I'll get much use out of it this year, but I can't wait for next spring.  I'll be looking for a slip or mooring for next year, so if anyone out there has any suggestions please let me know.  I live in Huntington, LI (North Shore), but also considering options on the South Shore.

I'd love to hear feedback about this models handling and performance from those of you who are familiar.  Although I'm not totally inexperienced handling a boat, it's been 15 years, and the last was a 19' Bayliner.  So any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I would have asked this prior to purchasing, but my first registration on this site was never activated.  Found Bob from my Hull Truth post.

I'm confident that I bought a great boat, now I've got to learn how to be a great boater!

Best regards,

“Four Keepers”

I am new as well but welcome aboard just the same. I too am just so happy to have found this awesome site. I just wanted to give you a heads up on the Yami HPDI. I had a 150 on my 2001 22' Seaswirle and I loved it. I put over 800 hrs., on that motor and made several trips from Stuart Fl to the Bahamas. I never had any issues just lots of great performance and great mpg's. I hope you and your family make lots of great memories aboard your new boat. Enjoy! :thumleft:

It would seem that HPDIs have a love/hate following.  Let's face it, an HPDI is very simalar in concept to a Merc Optimax.  In short, there are good motors out there, and there are bad...

So, triple, got an AS now?

P.S.  Well, DUH!, should have seen the thread you started on your 170!  Enjoy! :D

Bob,
Is that a "Ram" Ficht I see on that Explorer?  And let me tell you, those folding jump seats in the aft corners were a PITA!

Definitely a "Ficht" design engine but now Evinrude was owned by Bombardier and the motors labeled as "Direct Injection".
