Not so twin props!
« on: November 19, 2009, 01:58:38 PM »
How would a twin outboard boat react if it had one prop 15x17 and the other one 143/4x17.Could there be a reason why someone would do this.

In an absolutly perfect ocean, one motor would turn a few rpm higher.

Reason for doing this?

Assuming the same size (hp) motors, the final (lower unit ) drive ratios could be different.

Not seen all too often (if hardly ever) the motors could be from different manufacturers.

Slightly different performance from the motors themselves (assuming all else is equal).

Hull design and mounting.

Damaged one on the way out and that was the size of the spare :?:

The 14 3/4 might spin 200RPM or so higher than the 15.

Flea markets tend to get the best of people.  "Ah, it's only a 1/4"....

I assume one is a right hand prop, the other a left?

Bob,
You ever see that article about the SKA guy that was running triples of different makes?  Like Etec, Yam, and Opti...on the same boat?  Not only a rigging nightmare, but what about propping her out?  '05-'06 time frame.

There was a boat at the Ft. Lauderdale boat show like that - a Pro Marine boat.

I may be daydreamin  :drunken:  but the other day I was on I-10 (it's the north loop around Tally) when I swear I saw this boat on the side of the road. The truck towing it had broken down. On my way back, the driver had disconnected the trailer and a tow truck was picking up the tow vehicle. A second triple engine open fisherman was parked there also. I'm guessing they were going to another show?

Rick,
I think that YF at the Lauderdale show was to show what they can do motor-wise.  The guy I'm talking about, the St. Pete times did an article on him a few years ago.  He was actually fishing the SKA circuit with it.  See if I can find it.
