17' 1975 Need Gas Tank Dimensions and input on my rebuild
« on: June 15, 2010, 09:23:16 PM »
Just starting a renovation on my boat. Ill get some pics up before I rip out the floor. Going to need some help here. Never done this before. Reading about all of your renovations do not count right? I have a shopping list and need some input on it. I live in NY and keep the boat back home in South FL. I am flying out at the end of the month. I have 6 weeks to work/play on the boat.

Boat drawings/plans

http://s805.photobucket.com/albums/yy33 ... 0drawings/

Background on boat. My dad bought it from a neighbor (original owner) back in 1980. Boat has been sunk 2 times at side of sea wall behind house for short periods only. My brother had it after my dad and then my sister before I got it. So used hard for first 20 years and probably only 20 hrs in last 10 years. Had some work done on the engine and there was some termites found by my mechaninc who was looking into the soft spots (2) on the original floor as well. Had the boat tented last time I was down.

Plan started out just fixing the floor. Wife told me to make it last another 30 years to give to my kids. So here goes the floor, gas tank, wire, lights......everything basically. So as soon as the kids go off to camp. I get to go work with fiberglass durring a FL summer.

Welcome aboard 17.75  :!:  :!:
Looks like you have a fuel tank on the list - you going to carry one down on the airplane with you or do you want to find one down here?  SB4 might have the contacts that know the dimensions of a '75 170 fuel tank.  SB4 to the white phone.

Everything will be shipped to my Mother-in-Laws or purchased in the South Florida area. I looked on the Members list and did not see a SB4....is that shorthand for a members name?
thx

Rick,
He sent me a PM, I sent him one back saying I need dimensions.  Haven't heard back, yet he said he needs it ASAP...

Kinda like Skip, who I got a damn good price for, and haven't heard back...

I contact Ray, he goes through the motions he has to go through, get the quote, and then...bam!  They're gone!  That's Bullsh!t!  I'm doing this as a service to the members, and I ain't to real f****** pleased right now!

Sorry to rant, I love the members here, maybe my priorities are in the wrong place.  Just wanted all to know I contacted him.  To me, ASAP means ASAP!

Bob sorry you feel that way and that you misuderstood my original request. As noted in the title and as mentioned in my PM I am looking for the dimensions how could I give them to you.
As I mentioned at the bottom of my orginal post. I have all the conections to get the things I need at below wholesale. I am and never was looking for a quote....just some friging dimensions and another opinion on my redo.

And yes Bob ASAP means ASAP to me as well (I leave in 2 weeks and there is a 2 week turnaround from the tank company, I will be needing the tank 2-4 days after I land that gives me 2 more days to get the dimensions).

My childhood friend is a Retired Captin and has done 7 redos on boats 15-25 feet. But if getting info or a second opinion on my Aqua redo is causing so much flack.

Then BOOT ME!!!

I don't care for people who air thier griefs in a public forum. Especially when they are wrong. Bob hope you can blame your rant on having a bad day.

Nice way to treat a new member who has had an Aqua in his life for 30 years.

So I guess the bottom line is, and what his original question was - does anyone have the dimensions for a 75 170's fuel tank?  I figured someone would, otherwise I would not have told to him to query the membership.
Hope everyone can take a deep breath, calm down and realize what is being requested here.  He doesn't want a quote - he wants to know if anyone has dimensions so he can get his tank built.  The tank guy in Jersey (or someone up there, what's his name?) probably has the dimensions and will build the tank for you too.  Probably won't just give you the dimensions though.

Here is the one I had built for my 1985 170. It's made of 1/8" marine aluminum plate, the coal tar epoxy coated.

L = 57.5"
W = 20.25"
H =6.125"

Hope this helps.

17.75,
Yeah,I didn't have the best of days yesterday.  My apologies.  I can get a pretty damn good price from RDS a they will sell it to me at what Pro-Line would pay for it.  I make a little money, you get a good deal, and RDS gets a little business.

But if you have a tank guy who can give you a good deal and a quality product, then by all means utilize him!  Sorry I can't be of more help with the dimensions, but even Wellcraft CS doesn't have them.

Good luck with the re-build!  Once again, my apologies...

Bob

Thx Meguel.. Was the 1985 built in FL or after? Worried about the difference of 10 years in boat design.

Bob I have been there no problem.

The Aquasports were always built in FL - first 20+ years in Hialeah and then in Bradenton (probably had a Sarasota address though) 'til the end.
