T-top for 170
« on: September 08, 2009, 06:43:49 PM »
Finished my TOTAL rebuild of a 170 after a year of "blood sweat and beers" and am looking for help with a few last details.  I have seen a few pictures of 170's with a T-top and am interested if anyone has input.  Seems like a T-top would severely hamper movement around the console on the small boat, but if anyone has experience I would appreciate your comments.

Have followed the website since I started the project but have not posted...if there is anyone in the Mass / New Hampshire area that frequents the site, please get in touch...

Post some pics please. I think a t top will be fine I plan on getting one as soon as I talk the head financial advisor into letting me use the money. I like the one from fishmaster.com its a folding top that looks good plus you can fold it down to cover the entire boat or go under low bridges on the water. Ive seen a few pics with the t tops on them they dont seem to take up much room. If I rember right there website has pics of aquasports with their top installed.

If you don't mind the looks go for it, personally I wouldn't, the 170 is too short. I wanted one too when I first got my boat but after looking at some that had one and the advise I got here, I changed my mind

Oh, welcome  :salut:

Welcome aboard Dmidgley  :!:  :!:
I think you're right, the 170, at a 6'10" beam, is already tight to get around the console.  A big bimini is all you really need.

I actually just bought a 170 with a t-top. I think it looks good. If you'd like I can send you a couple of photos to help with your decision.
The flip side is that if your planning on doing a lot of casting or have multiple people fishing in the boat it will be in the way. I do and I am, sooo I took mine off yesterday and it is now sitting in my backyard. Planning on posting it for sale.

Good luck.

Biminis work great - just make sure you get an "extra tall" so you have some buffer from the heat coming off it.

Wow, that worked let me know what you think and if anyone is interested in a T-top let me know and I'll supply dimensions and maybe more photos. That shot was taken down around Cedar Key on our summer vacation. I like it. Makes me happy.  :sunny:
