Silly question about cooler seat

Recently bought a 1995 Osprey 175 with a cooler seat.  Seems odd to me that there isn't a drain in the cooler.  Do people really bail or pump water out of these things?  Has anyone put an aftermarket drain in?

Hard to believe no drain; mine has a drain in the center - plumbed it overboard with a thru-hull.
