1981 200 XF question
« on: April 29, 2009, 04:35:33 PM »
Hello,

I'm considering a 1981 200 XF to purchase.  The boat has no power right now but seams to be in solid condition for a 28 year old boat.  The floors are rock solid, there are no cracks in the gel coat, and the transom seems solid.  Is there any common problem areas that I should look for?

Thank you,

Bruce,

You just mentioned the 3 main problem areas when buying a boat.  If all those are good as you say, chances are the boat is solid.

One thing I would count on is a new tank.  If that is the original tank if it is not bad now it will be soon.  My only other suggestion would to be to check out the wiring situation as far as what works and what doesn't.  Looks like a solid boat :!:

Yup I've been down the "tank" road before.  That is why I like the Aquasport "tank hatch" in the floor.  No cutting up a deck to get out the tank.

Well, I'm the proud new owner of a 1981 200 XF walkaround!  I can't wait to get to work on her!

Well, I'm kinda on the fence about that.  I have a good running 125 Force with a fresh power head that is currently on a 20' Renken cuddy.  I'm planning on pulling the 125 off and hauling the Renken to the dump tomorrow.  I can't decide if I should give the 125 a try or sell it and get a 175 or 200.  I know the 125 won't set any records but at least I know it's history.  I can' afford a new motor so anything I buy will be used and unknown unless I overhaul it first.  Any thoughts?
