50HP vs. 150lbs.
« on: May 01, 2009, 08:44:36 AM »
Mercury now has their 350HP Verado out - at 667 lbs.
The 300HP Optimax is 517 lbs.
Difference is 150 lbs. at the very back of the boat...  :x

I think the extra 50 HP would be offset by the weight - what do you think?

The hp/wt ratio is almost the same with the nod going to the 300.
That said, I would think that one would get the same (or slightly better) performance with the 300 (on the same size craft) and have some coin left for fuel and beer, not necessarily in that order. 8)

Coin left?  The 350 Verado lists at (gulp!) $29,000

I think the 300 Optimax is around $19,000, so that's about $10,000 of fuel, bait, and/or beer!   :drunken:

I think I will stay with my old Black Max for a while longer...
