Porta bracket on 19.6

Has anyone put a Porta bracket on a 19.6 with a OMC V4.  a buddy of mine was thinking about doing this.  My thoughts were it would throw off the balance too much.  Has anyone gone down this road before and what were the results?  Was it worth it?

I am planning on putting one on mine, but it will be a few months before it is ready.  I am also very intersted in knowing if any other 19.6's have used the porta bracket.

I am curious if anyone can give a personal experience as well. However, I have thought long and hard about it for my own 196, and I think I would go with just a regular Bob's jackplate with a 6" setback or something like that.

Sure, you wouldn't be able to completely close in the transom without leaving some kind of notch in it (or just be careful to always raise the engine before tilting up).

But then you don't run the risk of messing up the handling and ride. These boats ride much better with the nose down in most conditions. You don't really give up anything else. You'd still be able to raise the motor and idle through really shallow water, and I doubt you'd draw anything noticeably more while on plane either.

If you do go with a portabracket, you might want to consider moving the gas tank forward, putting the batteries in a forward compartment somewhere, and definitely getting trim tabs.

Scott, I'm from Palm Harbor also.  The reason I ask, is that I have another buddy who has a 222, and he did the full transom with a Porta bracket.  His boat needs full down trim to keep from porpoising.  I don't think he changed the tank or battery location.

The other friend I have came across a deal on a Porta bracket and is not real internet savvy.  I  told him I would check the Aquasport site for him to see if it had been done and how it worked.

I was not sure if the V4 and 19.6 would balance out better than the 222 and V6.

Call Gause about their 19'6, they are friendly folks and will most likely oblige.

I wonder where that boat ended up? I'd really like to know how it handles with that 150 back that far, like he said the fulcrum point on a 19-6 would probably have to be moved even farther forward than on a 22-2. But man what a sweet ride!

I have a full bracket on my 222.
I did move the batteries under the console. That equates to 126 lbs.+/- off of the stern.
Plus the flotation in the bracket motor mount helps also.
I have trim tabs but they're only down 40% when taking off and usually remain there until the sea kicks up.
Mine does not porpoise.
To make matters worse, I installed a live well (17 gal) on the starboard side of the bracket so when full of water, I'm right back where I started.
Still no porpoising.

It must be the hull design.

I have a 200 Osprey with a Bob's jackplate, poling platform, 40 gal livewell at the transom. Battries (4) inside console. Running a 150hp. Planes very quickly, run tabs up most of time. Rock solid ride. Look at post (TRICKED OUT OSPREY). Love the boat.
