1981 Osprey 170
« on: April 01, 2009, 04:00:58 PM »
I purchased this boat (hull only) last week.  I've been looking for it for a while.  The boat is solid and needs mostly cosmetic work. I'm installing all new electrical and plumbing this week. I'll post pictures of how I found her and the progress along the way.  I have the option of powering it up with either a 2004 90 2-stroke Mercury or a 2004 115 2-stroke Yamaha.  Would like to hear some feedback from those on the powering of my soon to be new Aquasport.

Go with the 115 I have a 125 merc on mine love the performance speed and how fast I can get on plane but just a little to much weight in the back IMO, congrats on the boat youll love it Mines an 87 probally a little diffrence in them but there still great.

Welcome aboard Jay, you are going to love that boat and this place. There's about 55lb difference between those motors, the Yam being at 358, Merc at 303. I would go for the Merc to save some weight in the back. To bad it's not a 90hp Yam at 261lb

Welcome aboard Jay170V  :!:  :!:
You'll love the 170 - so easy to handle by yourself and very nimble in the water. Tough call on the motor choice.  I'm not sure how much difference in mph there would be between the 2 - maybe 5 - 8?  (I hit 40 with my 115) If speed is not your goal, then I would look at the least heavy.  They should both be reliable motors.

The 170 I just bought a few weeks back has a 70 hp 'Rude on the back. WOT pushes it to about 26 kts with three guys, but she only turns 5300 rpms. With the right prop, I'm sure I could get 35 kts with two guys.
