the alarm on my '96 112hp spl johnson keeps going off in a "beep... beep... beep..." sequence. there's no check engine lights on the tach. engine idles fine, spark on all cylinders, runs 5-6 psi water pressure on the garden hose at 1,000 rpms. its not running hot, temp gauge shows less than 140 degrees, and i can hold my hand on the head for 5-7 seconds. shows plenty of volts. i am

Odd because usuallly a beep every other second is a VRO failure
Try this, when the horn is sounding, disconnect the tan wire from the horn. If the sounding continues, the horn is faulty. If not, check the heat sensors at the heads

There should be a switch on the fuel pump. This is a vacuum switch that senses a fuel line restriction. Check your fuel lines and filters. Only other alarm is the overheat. When the alarm sounds, disconnect the tan wire to the overheat sensor on the head and check for continuity from ground through the tan wire/sensor. No reading = good sensor, anything else and sensor is bad. Do the same thing on the switch terminals on the fuel pump switch while engine is running and then off. Should only get a reading if you pinch the fuel line while it's running and cause a restriction. Keep us posted.

i checked the temp switches, the one on port side of the block has no reading, same as starboard. checked on the engine harness side, port side, nothing. starboard side, it shows a reading for a split second then nothing. theres no fuel line restriction, its going directly from a portable tank into the connection on motor, then direct into the fuel pump... if i cant figure it out, away with the alarm! i have a separate temp gauge that works, and water pressure gauge. hell, if an alarm sounds while under way, most of the time i dont even hear it on my other boat. just gotta keep an eye on the gauges. :cyclops:
