We have a 175 4 stroke on our 1970 FB.  The battery ran down and now when you turn it over the check engine light beeps and lights up.  What could be causing this???

What motor - a Suzu?

Have you disconneted the power yet?  Sometimes that will reset the PCM.  If not, get an owner's manual to diagnose... I can look at mine later if need be.

If it is a Suzuki/Johnson, the same thing happened to mine.  Make sure your battery is fully charged before you try starting the motor again.  If the battery is ran down when you turn the keyswitch on, the check engine light will come on.  If after your battery is charged fully, and the light still lights up, like LilRichard said,  disconnect the little white "lead wire" from the battery, leave it disconnected for about ten minutes, then hook it back up.  That fixed mine.
