150hp Mariner finally died
« on: February 05, 2009, 09:49:11 AM »
The repairs the motor needs probably far out weigh the value of the motor.

So i'm now looking for a new to me motor.  If I find a 115 for this boat i'd like to repower with that.  Better fuel economy and I don't haul ass anymore anyhow.  To many speed zones anymore.  If I find a 150 first at a good price i'll go with that.

From what I have noticed the weight of the 20' Osprey didn't change from the 80's up through to 90's.  Itremained at around 1550lbs. Many 90's 20' Osprey's that i've seen come with a 115 of some variety.

What kind of performance can I expect with a 115hp motor on a 20' Osprey?  With the 150 the boat probably goes at least 45mph.

I'm guessing top end of around 40mph with the 115?  Speed isn't the real issue but the loads I may carry from time to time.  The boat often may carry anywhere from 2-6 people plus baggage.

You wont be happy  :(  with the 115 when you have 4-6 people in the boat and probably burn just as much gas then as with the 150 and maybe a little more.  Stick with a 150  :D  and just don't push the throttle qiute as far forward if you want better fuel economy.

Check with a rebuilder - usually 1/4 to 1/2 the price of a new one.  Plus you can get a rebuild on a newer model that way too.
