What's the Hull truth???

I have had several discussions with many people about what are the best years of the 222 and what is the variation between hull designs from the late 60's thru late 70's. Many people have told me that there was a big change in the hull after 76 and that if you didn't want a flatback but still want to run somehat shallow that you needed a 73-76 hull. I have had the opportunity to look at serveral different years before and after 76 and to the naked eye I can not see any variation. I have tried to see the specs but they are hard to find. any help would be appreciated.

Here is a good source of info on the differences in the models.
Basically, the flatbacks are just that - very little deadrise, the early 70s Ospreys (like my 71) have the 12 degree deadrise, shallow sides and are designed for inshore fishing. The CCP came out later and added a hull with 20 degree deadrise and deep sides giving a solid boat for both inshore and nearshore fishing - no casting platform though.  Later on, in the late 80s and later, they combined the deeper deadrise and the deep sides with step up platforms.
Read the brochures - full of "good stuff".

I am not an expert on the later model 222s - all my studies were focused on FBs.  However I *think* that any 222 should work if you want the 12deg hull - even into the '80s.  Anyone know different?

I think any of the later osprey hulls are the same as the 73-76 hulls just different liners, top cap, etc. One thing to note though is that aquasport started making way more model from the late 70's on, it will make searching for a hull a little more intensive because there's more boats to look through in the later years.

Just a joke guys, don't take it so seriously...  It was apparent that he was looking for "Aquasport advice".  I was more or less pointing out that this forum is full of good folks who generally don't look for opportunities to make other members less credible, unlike other forums IMHO which have already been named.  And, of course, there's plenty of good folks on other forums as well, but there are a few that make the experience unenjoyable, which I feel cannot be said for this forum.

We're all adults here, and I feel a little pokin' fun every now and then should be ok, but I humbly apologize.

Thanks guys for all the info! I went thru most of the brochures and it looks to me as was stated above that most of the difference is in the cap and configuartion of the deck. It is very confusing to talk many people with differing opinions and find true information. That's the reason I love this site because rarely(maybe even never) does your question not get answered.

I think you'd be surprised at how many people will motor by in an Aquasport and not have a clue what they have 'cept "a boat".  We see it all the time at the gatherings, an old classic Aquasport will motor by us (us being in a bunch of Aquasports dating from the 60s to the 90s) and not even a head nod.  Either they're too shy or don't have a clue - or maybe both.  Since we see more of the late 80s and later, you'd think that they'd know what they have - we get no reaction from them either as they motor by.
