Response to Badon- Each coat of Interprotect on my 22-2 Flatback took about 1 quart. The SeaRay 390 took about 1 gallon per coat.

Hello all I also have a 73 19-6 and still undecided whether to go with bottom paint or gelcoat. I just bought the boat last weekend and have started some small repairs swim ladder, anchor light etc. The boat will stay on the trailer besides the occasional sleepover for those long fishing weekends so any additional advice pros and cons would be appreciated.

Bottom paint is really up to you... If you already have bottom paint on the boat, it might be easier to sand it down and reapply new bottom paint as opposed to removing all of the bottom paint and going with gelcoat, which is much more labor intensive...

To remove bottom paint go to Ace hardware and buy a Bahco carbide paint scraper. These things work great. It took me only an hour to scrape all the paint off my 225 ospray. Once I got it off, I sanded the gel coat with 150 and painted the bottom with Interlux barrior coat. Then I painted it with ablative Interlux. Looks great.
