What do you think about this 19'6 ?
« on: September 09, 2008, 07:48:16 PM »
I am considering dropping my 87' 17 striper and buying this 80% already finished 72' 19'6. The stringers have already been replaced and filled with foam and the floor is already glassed in with the exception of one rear panel above the bilge. Transom is solid, which is hard for me to beleive because of it being original. No signs of stress, no flex at all with that 125 merc with the jackplate. Also has a new aluminum gas tank. Heres a few pics, give me any ideas, thoughts, tips..?

I would look carefully at the transom - don't like what looks like seepage coming out on one corner...

Boat still needs a good deal of work, but could be a diamond in the rough.  You gotta wonder what they used a pick-ax for in the rebuild!

Good luck and see ya on the water!

I really don't think too much work is needed, most the guts are done. I want to finish the inside then use it until the winter time when ill strip the bottom paint and paint the hull/topsides. Once the last panel is glassed in, wouldnt I just have to feather everything smooth, bondo it all smooth, then paint? I dont think it will be too bad, if I even end up buying it... I have a 2004 115 yamaha that I wanted to put on it, but I think that may be a little underpowered

Well, looking at the pictures, for me that looks like a botch job, wouldn't be surprised  he did the same kind of work under the deck and looks like there's no more access to the fuel tank. The hull looks alright , the transom, hard to say

Keep your Striper and fix her up damn it

I dont beleive a 115 Yamaha would be underpowering it. Now 90, that would be underpowering it. I have a 22-2 and it has a 140 and I think it goes at breakneck speeds.
