1999 Johnson 175 Prop Advice
« on: August 15, 2008, 05:15:58 PM »
I have a 1976 222 with a 1999 Johnson 175 non-Ficht carb model engine. Spun the existing aluminum prop and looking for a new stainless prop.  The current prop is 15 1/2 x 15 and as I recall performance is good and ran WOT at 5200 RPM.   The boat is used for everything from running offshore for fishing to wakeboarding and everything in between.  Pulls strongly out of the hole and I usually cruise at 3500 - 3700 RPMs.

In searching for a new prop, it seems this prop size is unusual and a little difficult to find. Any thoughts on this prop on the 222?  Is there a major difference in going down in diameter while retaining the existing pitch?  Should the stainless prop be any different size than the aluminum prop?

Thanx.

Thanx for your offer Steve. I'm up on  Long Island, NY, so it would be a long way to try your prop.  ;-)  I was thinking of changing the pitch to a stainless 17" pitch.  The 15" pitch prop seems designed for heavier loads.  Thanx again for your reply.
