rod holders
« on: August 09, 2008, 04:14:20 PM »
Hello all, new to the board up here in taxachusetts.  I have a 2003 Osprey 200 CC and I am looking for some rod holder ideas.  T-Top is not in the budget at this time so I added a bimini top.  Problem is I lose all the rod holders on the console when I open the top which is not to often.  I am looking to add 2 rod holders somewhere in the front of the boat for light spinning rods and was considering suction cup rod holders that I can take out when needed.  Has any one tried these from cabelas?

Saw some pictures here on the board of someone with rail mount holders on the bow rails.  Do they hold rods securely?

I was considering adding 2 gunnel/flushmounts up front but am scared to death of drilling a hole and having them not fit/work because of the bow flair?

Thanks
Bob in Mass.

I'm leery of suction cup devices.  I've seen rail mounted rodholders everywhere and would use those than suction cups.  I'm in MA as well.  Depending on where you are, and what you want done, I've installed many rodholders in gunwales and could possibly help you put some in if you wanted.  Let me know.  Ben

Thanks for the reply and the offer Ben.  I am on the south shore, East Bridgewater.  I tried relocating one of my rail mount holders from the console to the bow rail yesterday and it seemed to work out pretty well.  I think I will pick up a couple more and go with that.  Some bungee cord to make up safety straps should do it.

I was given this link with some good reports on another site, they seem to be the ticket except for the price.  http://www.seasucker.com/

Thanks

I'm in Methuen/Charlestown during the week and on the Cape on the weekends.  One of my best buddies/fishing buds is from East Bridgewater.

If the rail mounts work well, which they should, it is the easiest way to go.

I see the Seasucker stuff, it is nice, but really too much money for me.  I needed something for my 3 oz pyramid sinkers and went to Bed Bath and Beyond and got an OXO soap tray with a suction cup mount and for $7, it has worked out well.

If you ever decide you want to mount some rodholders, just let me know as I have the hole saws and would be willing to help you out, here are the 5 I have sunk in my gunwales this past year;
