PROBLEMS PUTTING BOAT BACK ON TRAILER..
« on: July 26, 2008, 11:14:10 PM »
I have a 89 170 striper and I've had problems putting my boat back on the trailer ever since i've gotten her.  Basically when i drive up to the trailer, if my keel doesn't hit the keel roller dead on then i'm hitting metal off the trailer cross frame..so basically i have to be dead on straight. Have any of you had the same problem? Well i tried to problem solve a couple times now. I installed  side guides and also raised my bunks. But still if i'm not dead on straight my keel takes a beating on the trailer cross frame. I'm thinking my last resort now is to add an inner set of bunks closer to my keel....what do you all think? any input is appreciated! thanks in advance!

i spent the entire day yesterday retrofitting a catamaran trailer to fit my aquasport.  i was also debating adding a set of small inner bunks at the rear just to help set the boat straight on the trailer when loading the boat up.

also, i dont have the "v" braces on my trailer, they're just straight.  do you think that will be a problem?  i was just going to put rollers down the middle and support it from both sides.

i know it might sit a little higher, but, as long as it works i'm good.

let us know if/how you figure this out.  i dont want to beat up my keel either.

ON the trailer!

Put front bunks in to keep the bow centered - that makes putting the boat back on the trailer so much easier.  Align it, run her up to the bow stop, put the hook in, and you're on!  You can see the bunks in these pics:

I also put guide bunks on the sides to help - basically, all I have to do is get the nose on the trailer and the boat will go on right.  The side bunks are about 2" off the hull when the boat is on the trailer - don't have them touching the hull or they will mark up the hull sides:

Good luck and see ya on the water!

I think you just need to not put the trailer in so deep.  Don't drive it up so far and winch it up the last foot or so.

What GoneFission said.  I have put a front set of bunks on 3 trailers now and it makes all the difference in the world.

Note:  Mine are set up with NO weight on the front bunks.  They are just guides.
