Trailer Hub/Bearings question..
« on: July 29, 2008, 08:19:13 AM »
I just rebuilt 3 of my 4 hubs on the trailer i bought.  i took my time and tried to do everything right.

i bought 3 new hub kits (w/bearings), 3 bearing buddies, and 3 seal savers (and a grease gun and heavy duty marine grease).

i think i did everything right and reinstalled everything as needed, however, i'm doubting myself on one thing..

when i slid the hub back on the spindle, and i put in the bearing, was there supposed to be something between the bearing and the castle nut?  there was no washer included included in the hub kit, but, i'm just not sure.

i just slid the hub on and then the bearing and then the castle nut, nothing in between the bearing and the castle nut... is that correct?

of course, i put the bearing buddies over that, and then the bearing buddy bra..

thanks in advance.

Yes you should have a washer between the bearing and the nut.  You can use the old washer.  Its not really a wear component so the old ones should be fine after you clean them up.

glad i asked... off the bearing buddies go!  haha

there were no old ones.. the 3 hubs i changed out were basically trashed.. just had the inner bearing races on the spindles... i paid $200 for the trailer (dual axle) and after the guy i bought it from saw how much work i had to put into it, he gave me my $200 back.   :D

i'm into it about $350 now.
