New Owner
« on: August 20, 2008, 08:24:45 AM »
I have been lurking for several months while looking for a good rebuild project. Finally found what I think is a good solid boat for a project and purchased an 87 250 ccp, at least that is what the seller called the boat. It does have an enclosed transom and an aluminum bracket. The boat had a Johnson 250 Hp that was scrap. What is the best repower for this boat? Is  the Yamaha 350 Hp  too much power or too much weight(804 lbs) for the boat? Also looking at  the option of twin Suzuki 150's.

The aluminum bracket on the boat is in rough condition and I might have to replace it as well.  Is the Porta bracket a better option than the aluminum bracket?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to another CCP owner - you've got a great boat there, and as Aquasport used to say, "An Adventure in Every Ride."

A 250 is a good choice on that boat, but you could go with twin 150s - I think that's what Doc Reed has on his boat.  You can check out some of Doc's pix at:

Lots of good info on CCPs on this site - so look around and do some searches.  Don't hesitate to ask questions - someone here can probably answer them.

Welcome aboard. It's good to have another CCP owner around here. We're often besieged by the 170 crowd. They're a rowdy bunch. :D

You've got what could arguably be considered Aquasport's finest craft
Oh one other thing, your post is worthless without pics

Last but not least. IMHO with a fully closed transom, a full bracket is the way to go.

Good luck and be sure to post some aqua porn showing your progress.
