new aquasport owner
« on: June 13, 2008, 07:35:25 PM »
Hello all,

I just became the new owner of a 1997 215 dual console powered by a 200hp evenrude. This is a replacement of a 21ft vip sea stealth that I recently sold. Truth is, as much as I loved the cc my wife and five year old daughter saw things a bit differently. Especially since the oft planned fishing trips vaporized on a consistent basis. Hey, reality sets in right? Anyway, I wanted to reach out to some familiar with these boats for some guidance. While I like the boat, it seems to be somewhat of a tank with the 200. In addition, the current motor is a bit rough. I was looking to re-power with a new or recently used 250-300. Obvious question is two or four stroke and best mfg?

Second, can anyone provide some insight as to why through 2002 max rated hp was up to 300 and weight with 150 ob was approx 3000lb, however, from 2003 on max rated hp is 250 and weight with 225 is 4100lb? Are they completely different boats?

Thanks

A 200 on a 215 seems like it should be about right.  Are you sure the motor is running up to spec?  Is it propped right?  You should be able to run mid 40s at top speed, and a nice criuse at 30 or so...

Here's a review from a while back on a 215 with a 200:

Hope this helps; see ya on the water!
