fuel hose replacement
« Reply #3 on: October 07, 2007, 12:54:00 AM »
If you have not yanked the old hose out yet, you can use a double nipple fitting to connect the new hose to the old hose with no obstruction or increase in diameter. You can heat the hose with hot water to make it slip over the nipple fitting. If you can't find the right nipple or barb fitting then use a threaded fitting.  Then you simply pull the new hose into place using the old hose as a fish tape.

Coming in late on this but I'd bet the old hose wouldn't move because it had been foamed around. Is your fill located on the gunwale?

I have an '87 AS Osprey 170... I can't get the old fuel fill hose out, I can't even budge it more than an inch!

I have the console off... the old tank out of the coffin, the new tank built and ready to go in... but the old fill hose is corroded and nasty, can't keep it.

Maybe it is foamed in... maybe it is wedged against a stringer... not sure where to go from here, any help is appreciated!

Well this won't win any awards but when I replaced mine, I ran into the same problem. I ran a new hose from the tank to the back (steering) side of my center console and relocated the fill cap.

Problem with this is that you have to be in the boat to fill the tank.

Definitely not for everyone but works fine for me.

Thanks for the info... I was hoping to not have to relocate the fuel fill location... I might be able to run new hose though, if I could only get the old one out - why would anyone install the hose so that it couldn't be replaced?

It may be different on my 22-2 osprey, but on it, the fuel fill hose was secured by a zip tie that was screwed to the inside, vertical bulkhead of the casting deck.  It was accessible thru a 4" round inspection hatch in the starboard hatch in the casting deck.  That access hatch gave enough room for me to get in there, cut the zip tie and use one hand to work the hose thru.  After the new fill hose was in place, I was able to secure it in the same manner with a zip tie.  It was a pain, but turned out OK.

Thanks for the info... I have an access port in the starboard locker up front, it is about 10" away from where I would imagine the hose crosses the stringer... if I'm lucky I might be able to get my arm up in there far enough to remove any zip tie, etc.

If worse-comes-to-worse, I could cut a hole in the locker, close to the hose, then repair that afterwards (better than the deck).

Wow! I am changing tank and had planned to change the fuel hose...same problem that thing has foam weighing on it and it wouldn't budge.....

Can we class action sue Genmar? the company that makes aquasport. (joking here) Because that hose is stuck in there. won't budge.

Likely nobody at the plant reckoned the boats would out-live the hoses.

I finally got the old fuel fill hose out!  :D

That was the biggest PITA job ever, I ended up cutting the opening larger in the coffin where the hoses enter, reaching my hands up in there to work the hose loose, used a lot of bubble soap as a lubricant, nearly broke my back doing this, thank God it's over now.
