fuel smell under deck
« on: April 28, 2008, 12:41:57 PM »
Hi All,

I posted this under restorations as well.  I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this black canister is attached to the rear of my fuel tank.  I have an 85' 222ccp.  The tank looks ok, however I have a fuel odor that comes and goes.  Nothing down in the bilge.  I think the odor is coming from the black fuel pump?  It has 2 wires (black and red) coming out of it.  I want to confirm it is the fuel pump in fact.

Thanks!

Chris

Hello Chris    If that tank is the original I would consider it a suspect just based on the age.  I would go ahead and pull the tank for inspection and/or testing.  You will feel better about it if you go ahead and do that.
