There are 3 tower shops that I know of in the Pensacola/Gulf Breeze area. I use Breeze Fabrication b/c they are close and the owner is great to deal with.

He quoted me $185.00 for the windshield railing that will also curve along to the front sides of the console for a grab rail. I do not know if this is a "normal" price ot not. The leaning post with rod holders is around $700.00..!

I am also going to try to "sneak in" another boat lift for a total of 3. There is a jet ski lift I can take out to justify another lift....Maybe...!

The price on the leaning post sounds pretty good. Are you getting a storage bin under the seat and foot rest?

The 98' 115 Evinrude is now broken in. I have a problem with the Faria 7000 outboard tach. At idle to 3k RPM's the tach is reading correctly. At WOT the tach is reading 7000. But by hearing the engine it is definately not 7000..! GPS and speedo speed are at 37 MPH.

The pole setting is on 12. Any suggestions?

I think the problem is not with your tach, but the voltage rectifier. Pretty sure you have an unregulated system on that motor, and the tach is right off the rectifier. My tach would be intermittent like that and peg at full rpm one minute and dance around the next, finally to settle down like nothing was wrong. Replaced the rectifier and the problem went away.

My understanding is that on the unregulated systems is that they tend to run higher voltages and you need to use a battery that you can add electrolyte and keep an eye on it. I've probably added a pint of water to mine over the last 2 months as it likes to boil. Battery is in great shape - just need to keep an eye on the levels. My system will put out 16v at cruise and I can get it down to about 15v if I lave some lights on.

The Faria website did mention a voltage regulator may be needed on the motors. The 90 and 115.

If you are putting out 16v that is very bad for the battery. Anything over 15.9 is bad from what I have read. I have Odyssey batteries in my big boat and was having trouble. It was my onboard charger ruining the battery.

Thanks for posting all those pics of your project. I'm in a similar situation with my 1986 170 that recently developed fuel problems (2001 four-stroke Yamaha 100F won't crank, etc.). I've had the boat for a month now. The former owner did use ethanol gas, and that's part of the problem, but I'm responsible for water ingress in the system (either through cracked fuel hose or corroded tank, or both). So, now I've got the console up and the sole panel out and the tank removed. Does anyone know if it's worth trying to repair the small corrosion holes in the tank (probably with epoxy) and keep using that original tank? I'm trying to avoid the big dollars I'll have to shell out for a new aluminum tank or it's poly equivalent. Thanks in advance for advice on this issue.

No I wouldn't try to repair it. The tank is too old and there can be more corrosion than you can see. Especially when a pressure test is done. To help save on money I would get a similar or smaller Poly tank.

You will also need to replace ALL of the hoses to the tank with A1-A2 USCG approved fuel hose. That's alot of money right there..!

Thanks for the advice about the tank. I figured that was what I'd most likely hear.

So, you're saying replace not only the feed line from tank to engine, but also the fill hose and the vent hose as well? Those last two seem to be in decent shape. Do a really need to replace them?

Thanks,

Its the inside of the fills and hoses that ethanol degrades. You wouldn't be able to tell until you cut them open to see if any damage has been done.

What I have seen with older fill and vent lines is that when the fuel tank is overfilled or when its full the ethanol gas left sitting in the hoses will attack the inside lining of the old hoses causing them to swell inside. The outside will look fine but the insides will look like clogged arteries :!:
