Transom strength

Anyone know how much weight the transom on a 1999 245 explorer can hold?  The boat is 25 ft long and is 4300 lbs. without the engine.  The current engine is 520 lbs. I believe.

I saw those new diesel outboard that are coming out of Florida and wondered if my boat could handle the 3.0, 400hp.  The engine is 723lbs.

Maritime Engineering Group for those of you that have not heard about the new diesel high output engine.

Any help would be appreciated.

I agree, sounds like a great alternative. 8 Gal/hr vs 27, hmmm    - no brainer.  Wonder what they'll cost though.
I would email the Aquasport site and ask them. They'll have the data on that year boat - and then let us know.  I bet it is rated for a lot.

CCPs, WACs, and FFs at 22 and 24 foot lengths were designed for twins up to 280-300 HP for the 24-25 footer, so you gotta figure two motors at about 400 lbs each, so maybe 800 lbs total...    

It will be interesting to see what the final product looks like - and where the price will be!

I'll just bet I don't want to see the price if they ever get them to market.  I hope I am surprised.
