Could my Aquasport (pilot house)

Hi guys, could my 170 handle something like this, but smaller for the size of my boat, that was done on a Mako. I'm concern about being top heavy. It's a nice project btw

If you want something like that, buy a 20, 22, or 25 foot Walk Around Cuddy (WAC).  You would spend big bucks to try this on a 170 and wind up with a small, front heavy boat.  You can buy a WAC for the price of the fiberglass and epoxy alone.

You will still have a bunch of money to make that happen in a 17 footer that may not have the backbone to handle it.  17 feet is very hard to make what you want happen.  You can pick up a 20 to 25 WAC for about $5K or a Cuddy for as little as $3K and maybe sell the 170 for about what you pay for the WAC or Cuddy.  Custom work is expensive on the front end (you pay the $$$) and sometimes hard to sell on the back end (you don't get the $$$   :-(  

Check out this 25 foot WAC with no bidder at $6500 - will probably be relisted in a couple days a $5000:

And here's a 22 foot cuddy that looks pretty solid for $3800 or best offer (I've seen these go for $1500):

Of course, if you want to make the 170 into a cuddy, we are all with ya and would love to see the results!  I just think the LOA and hull don't support a project like that well.

I would do the work myself, I'm a pretty handy guy, I like to fabricate things, and would make it as light as possible

Yeah, you're probably right, I need a 20' hull. Too bad because I really like my boat, but would like some weather protection, since I don't live in Florida :(

OK - this is a little strange, but guess what just popped up?  A 1986 Aquasport 222 WAC in - now get this - Algonac, Michigan.  It's on eBay now for an opening bid of $500.  I would guess that right now it's somewhere around 500 degrees below zero in Algonac with wind chill and all - and this boat could go cheap!  No engine, but you would want to put your own choice on it anyway.  This could be a nice boat for ya, and they say they will deliver to Canada!   :wink:

One of the members - Fishhead - did the same thing you want to do.  See his gallery - only difference is his original boat was a 230 Osprey.
I agree with Capn John - your boat's pretty small to be thinking about doing that to it - at least in a hardtop version. Ever think about doing the same thing in canvas?

Looks like a nice Aqua, but don't think I would be able to tow it with my Ford Edge 3000lb max towing cap, I think the max I could tow would be a 20'

Looks like he used a Pacific Pilothouse product by the looks of it, nice boat.

Yes, at the beginning I thought about making a t-top with a Weather Enclosure that I could remove when needed, but would like something more permanent

I kicked around the same idea, however i was left with the fact one cannot turn a small boat into a large boat by adding structure.
