Water Level

What's up guys,
                        Stupid question: Should the sculppers be below the water line? Took 4 people out the other day, and noticed water was coming up through the lines, in the stern of the boat. I have a kicker motor on back(i/o) but i can't see why that would have anything to do with that.  Does it sound like the boat could be waterlogged? Any help would be great.

On my 222, the cockpit drain holes (where they exit the hull) are always under water. When the cockpit (deck) is above the waterline, the deck is dry. When the deck desends below the waterline, water enters through the scuppers (drains) and flows on the deck. Just hydraulics (or head pressure) or the old saying that "water seeks its own level". Call it what you like, the way to avoid it is to either carry less weight in the stern, fish in calm waters or put plugs in the drain holes. I do the latter and remove them while underway.

WE replaced our scuppers.
