1983 22' CCP
« on: September 05, 2007, 12:41:13 PM »
Hey guys, I am looking at a 83' 222 CCP on Craigslist.  It will need a new deck, the CC reattached, new tank, wiring and an outboard.  It is on a dual axle alum trailer.  The hull looks to be in very good shape, the transom and stringers are 100%(I was told by the owner who is the original owner).  The owner is asking $1,500 for the the boat, CC and trailer.

I thought this sounded like a pretty good deal.

I was thinking of hanging a new Suzuki on the back, how much power do I need?  The 175 is 480lbs and the 200-250 is 580lbs.  I would rather do the 175 if I can get away with it.  I know this boat has more of a deadrise so I will need more power, but I would be happy with a top speed of about 37-38mph.

Any thoughts?

I think it sounds like a great deal actually.  Needs some work but you already know that.

The dual axle trailer is worth $1500 on it own if it's in good shape.

A 175hp motor is plenty for the 22-2.

Thanks for the info.  The trailer will probably need bearings/tires but it is aluminum, so I thought it would be worth the $.

Can anyone give me some real #'s on what they're getting with a 222 CCP and the outboard?

Thanks!

Oops.  Don't know why I said 22-2 when you said 22' CCP.

I think you might be better with a 200 because of the deadrise... JJ, what are you running?

I am sure you know, but the 150 and 175 are the same block... the 175 just has different valve timing and fuel setup.  You may benefit from taking a jump in displacement.

Yeah, I know Richard I was just thinking that the extra horsepower might be canceled out by the extra 100lbs.  I'd really like to hear some performance #'s from people with CCP's.  Thanks for your input!

I think there are several on here running 175s on the 22' boats.  Maybe capt dave is who has the new Zuke 175?  I have a 225 Johnson Ocean Runner.  Good hole shot with a 4 blade prop.  GPS shows 40 mph at WOT.  If I could afford it, I would try to re-prop for efficiency and to hell with hole shot or top end.

I am a firm believer in powering a boat at or near it's rated HP.  I have been disapointed in the performance of boats that were not near rated HP.

I'm running a 2.4 litre Mercury 200 on my 22-2CCP with a 13-19 pitch Quicksilver Power2 prop.  It works well and tops out at 40 MPH and 5300 RPM.  I think a 175, 200, of 225 would all work well on this hull; they are all the same block...

The newer 3-litre Mercurys run a good deal stronger than the 2.4 and 2.5 block models - there's no replacement for displacement!     A friend of mine recently repowered from a 2.5 litre 225 to a 3 litre 225 and was surprised at the difference.  He actually had to reprop the boat to a higher pitch prop.

I noticed that Mercury just came out with a 4 cylinder Verado 200 - that's a four-stroke 200 horse engine that weighs in at 510 lbs.!  That's about the same as most 200 HP two-strokes.  Check it out:

Hey - why not?  Mercury gets 1200 HP out of one engine if you want to go with an I/O setup:
