My 170 was a charmer too.  Am seriously thinking of getting another.  Easy boat to launch/retrieve single-handed and is thrifty with fuel.   Has surprisingly good sea-keeping qualities if the boat is not overloaded with too big an engine.

MJB,

Welcome :!:    Judging by your 1st picture, that boat was sitting on highway 70 at Morehead City    I fish down there alot and figured that is where it was sitting.

jdupree,

You guessed it, she was a donation boat to the college.  I'd driven by it for a month and finally decided to check it out.  I was looking for a project 17 cc and she was the perfect candidate.

As for power, I'm not one for alot of speed,   I'm thinking I'll be able to re-power with a 90hp.

I had a 1988 90HP Johnson on mine and it was perfect.

From one 170 owner to another...welcome!   :D

Judging from the placement of your waterline, I'de say the boat is pretty soggy.  When I started tearing into mine, I found that much of my foam was saturated as well.

My ongoing project thread...

Good luck and keep us posted w/ lots of pictures.   :)

We've got our house up for sale now Jim so I haven't done anything in a few months other than move it around the yard a bit so it wouldn't be in any of the listing pictures.  Apparently, our agent thought a rotten old boat would detract from the look of the house...

I'll move this over to the rebuild forum and start a new thread.  I've got a few pics now that she's home.
