flat back versus flats boat

Does anyone have any idea how flat back would compare against a typical style flats boat as far the depth of the water they can run or fish in?

I think its better than some flats boats.  I could drag my old flat back across an 8 " sand bar.
I thought it would be a 2 week project?

I would agree, my 1970 22-2 can go anywhere BUT...the weight of the Aquasport and "push polling" around the shallows it not nearly as easy.  If your going to spend time in the groves fishing I would say a flats boat is your choice.  If your just going to be out on the flats etc. a FB works well.

What James says - draft is dependent on deadrise and weight, and in those regards an old Aquasport is as good or better than lots of flats boats.  However, the high sides make it more difficult to pole in a wind and some people just like the low sides for fishing better.

Your draft is dependent mostly on surface area and weight distribution. You will find that a flatback will draft around the same as a lot of flats style boats. But is much harder to pole around because of size and weight, but then again any 22' flats boat isn't going to be easy to pole around. Apples to apples, a 22' flats boat vs. a 22' Flat back, you will probably get more bang for your buck with the flat back considering you can pick one up cheap. But dont compare a 16' flats boat to a 22' boat and expect a get a reasonable comparison. If your looking to go ultra shallow, buy a canoe or a small jon boat and get a semi-v aquasport. Best of both worlds.
