1982 246 CCP Pics
« on: March 25, 2007, 09:52:22 PM »
Hello:

I've been lurking for a while but figured I could finally post some pics of my project after the work I was able to get done this past weekend.  I recently had the T-Top modified to fit the console and have begun installing all the toys (oneof the best part of any project!).  I installed the VHF and Cell antenna.  Two GPS WAAS antennas, Hailer, Horn, Outriggers and Radar.  Still need to wire it all up, but I can see the end from here.  Well at east the light at the end of the tunnel.  It's been a long three years!

Does the radar affect the GPS or cell phone reception when the antennas are that close together?  I've wondered about how much separation is needed, but have not seen a lot of specs on that.

Boat's lookin' good!

As long as the GPS antennas are not on the same plane as the radar beam it shouldn't be a problem.  I have installed several for friends with no issues.  The active part of your long antennas is in the upper quarter or even less of the antenna.  There will be no problem.

Follow up to some questions.

I don't as of yet if the radar interferes with the other electronics.  But the antenna mounts and the radar was previously installed in the identical manner so I'll hope for the best.  Beside there's not much real estate on a 5X8 top give each there preferred space for separation.  GPS receivers are elevated above the plane of the radar face show they shouldn't have a issue.  Radar and GPS share NEMA but not really networked.  I have a older Raymarine 630C 10.4 color plotter  that I'll be mounting on the upper right side of the console but as with the older technology you don't get all the bells and whistles networking now brings to the table.

ALL the teak has been replaced with starboard.  The back around the splash well, around the rod boxes and the hatch up front are all new starboard that I replaced.  Console was pulled  and painted  and new 120 gallon tank installed underneath.  Fish locker was also painted and new hardware installed but that's it.  The rest of the hull is original.  I'm running a 93 250 Johnson V8 with a 14.5X18 pitch 3 bladed prop thats pushes it 41 mph (GPS verified) before installing the T-Top

Hull and deck are a light gray not brown (probably just the lousy lighting in the pics)
