I appreciate the kind words but I'm not entirely happy with some of my finish work. I could point out many flaws in my work, but won't :wink:  as space is limited. I just want to get back in the water. I feel like I've missed at least a month of fun as it is.

Jim, the bracket weighs about 75-85#. not sure exactly because of the custom width. I figure I saved about 40-50# by using the composite so hopefully I have not added much more weight to the total.

jdupree, I'm thinking about reinstalling the cooler seat aft in the newly acquired space in the cockpit.

That cooler seat would be perfect in the new area.  That would give you more seating and a cooler also.

I think the work looks great :!:   At least you know how to do it yourself.  That means alot and look at the money you have saved.  Looks like a professional job to me :wink:

I got the finish coat sprayed this afternoon. I broke down and bought a cheap little Kobalt touch up spray gun a Lowes and was pleasantly surprised at the over all quality.

I've had good luck with Blue Water Marine paint, it"s an AWL grip clone.


I will add a texture after it is on the boat.


Finished nice and shiny.


Ass end all holes drilled and ready for reassembly. Even have the tabs located


I'm going to repaint the floor. Durabak stains to easy. Will over coat with a 2-part white


Color match is not that great so I will repaint the entire hull and top side this fall.


Inside brackets painted also.

It's a little 1-ton lift I picked up from harbor freight for $130.00. Not a bad deal at all. The other day I got a Racor 660RAC assembly for $33.00 delivered. Reassembly this week-end!

Too bad that hoist isn't taller.  Sooner or later I'm facing the job of lifting a 600# Mercruiser engine into the 240.

I'm done for now! She's ready to go in the water in the morning. Finished painting and re-assembly, cables adjusted, test run on muffs went good. Here are a few pics

Profile with a new stripe and decals

There's that darn cat again

Lots of new space, still have to paint anti-skid

Tabs and scuppers.



Red oak stained rosewood and a nice coat of spar varnish.

Bilge with a new Rule 1500 and a new Marlon 3/4 intake for the washdown and live well.

New wash down pump and strainer.

I replaced the dash panel with a nice piece of black starboard and added a new Jensen stereo, also put a couple of Kenwood speakers up front.



New stripe

After I mounted the motor my tongue weight was less than 100# so I had to scouch the boat up on the trailer about 12". Now it's about 250#. I really need a new trailer. Water test tomorrow. I will post a few numbers and pics afterwards. I would like to thank you guys for the assistance and support during this project. Special thanks to Bobby @ Classic Mako. A little more to come later.

Got it in the water this afternoon after a couple of misfires this past week end. Rained or threatened to on Saturday. Sunday we launched and while still at the pier it started and ran briefly then died and both batteries refused to give up enough power. Pulled it out and went to Advance for two new batteries, installed and back to the ramp. Would not start, apparently it was not getting fuel. Back to the house. One of my fuel connections was not tight! enough so the system was sucking air instead of fuel. I guess when I started it on the muffs it was running on the fuel still in the motor. No big deal, at least it pointed me towards both batteries that would not hold load. Fuel problem fixed My son and I proceeded to the ramp today and launched with no problems apparent, Out of the hole with the motor not lowered all the way the bow was at 45 degrees. Trimmed it all the way in and she got on plain quickly. She would take very little trim before porpoising pretty bad. So, trimmed in and using just tabs I opened her up! Jumped on plain quickly @WOT I started trimming slightly and pulled 52mph (a 5mph gain) but in moderate turns the prop was blowing out. I have very little trim available before this happens so I guess I need to lower the motor one hole. Does that sound like the problem to you guys?

I have zero experience with motors mounted on brackets but it seems to me that finding the sweet spot for motor height would be more a matter of trial and error to get it right.  With motors mounted right on the transom you have  an easier time with motor height because the bottom edge of the transom's right there.  In any case, small adjustments can make a big difference in performance and blowout-proofing the prop.

Boat looks great!  Final set-up glitches come along as a matter of course with any major refit like you've done.  It's all part of the education.

Jim, I went into my GPS log and it listed the top speed run @54mph. The speed I posted earlier was paddle wheel speed. The log is GPS speed. Don't know about the accuracy of a paddle wheel at higher speed. My speedo is pretty much useless as are all speedo's. That is a 7mph gain from the bracket alone. If I manage to get a 250XS Merc this puppy will run with a friends 28' Regulator with twin 250 Yammy's :shock:
