AquaSport 196 project boat
« on: June 17, 2023, 02:40:38 PM »
Some years ago I was given a 196 that had a leak in the transom.  I had ideas of redoing the boat but did not have a building to do the work.  Now as I am older I decided to forgo the project and see if someone is willing to to take it off my hands.  The boat is in my new boat barn located in Lake George NY.  The boat does not have a serial number so I guess it is probably from the 70's.  If interested repond to this message.  Dave D.

Hi Dave, the first year of the 196 was '72 which coincidentally was the first year that Hull ID was required for every hull. Look on the outside of the transom for a small "stamp" in the gelcoat.  That will tell you the year, as the last 2 digits is the year it was produced. If you can post a picture or two I can help you identify the year or get close.

RickK  I have owned several boats over the years and you are correct that that location is the serial number of any boat I have owned except this one does not have it.  Attached are some pictures of the boat

What you have is a 191 and they were made through '71. Based on the pics I would say it is a 191 Osprey. The osprey has the console set back from the casting deck maybe 2 feet. If yours is right against or partially on top of the casting deck, it's a Gull model.
Here is a link to the '68/69 catalog  - Osprey: https://classicaquasport.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11788&title=1968-69catpg5&cat=744

Gull: https://classicaquasport.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11786&title=1968-69catpg3&cat=744
