22.2 FF in South Carolina
« on: May 27, 2023, 10:23:38 AM »
This is my 1979 22.2 FF
I bought it about 6 years ago with twin 1979 115 Johnson cross flow power

The boat was underpowered and was not counter rotating setup. The boat would list to starboard and it was slow to get on plane
I added the large dole-fin and the whole attitude of the boat changed immediatly

I just bought a couple of 1990 120 OMC looper motors that I am rigging now. I am told these loopers are 20% to 30% more power to the prop. The 79 115 crossflows were rated at the power head but the loopers are rated at the foot.

I am hoping the additional power will work better.
I am concerned about the scupper drains considering the additional weight of the 120s vs the 115s. I think the 120s weigh about 40 t0 50 pounds more that the 115s,
I am considering moving the batteries to the front of the boat if the ports don't drain well.
The self bailing drains were right at the water line before.
What do you guys think about the repower and the drainage issue.
Comments welcome

Hi Charlie and welcome aboard  :39:

An easy and cheap way to figure out how the boat will sit with heavier engines you can get some sand bags and fill enough to get to 100 lbs and stack them on the engine cowls with the engines down.
