225EX repower & little things
« on: September 23, 2021, 08:13:05 PM »
Hope y'all have been enjoyin the water. Time flies, now retired, relocated, and able to spend more time on my 95' 225 Explorer.

After much too much frustration and down time w/the original Ocean Runner, I re-powered with a Suzuki 200DFA. Very happy with it so far after 200 h.

A few little things have cropped up, so looking for advice on replacing 1) fishbox pull handle (missing the tophat in the pic) and 2) side vent cover/grill (sorry no pic of actual grille buts its a plastic oblong piece about 2-3/4" x 1-1/4" with 2 mounting holes that are 4" apart).

.

Marine Liquidators maybe?

Next up will be to fix a bimini support that pulled out and a livewell drain tube that too easily pulls out when it gets bumpy.

Thanks in advance, Keith (from San Marcos, CA)

Nice engine, same thing I want to put on my build but the fly by wire. Have you got some fuel burn numbers at cruise speed yet?

Fishhead, sorry haven’t kept fuel consumption records but it definitely sips compared to its predecessor. I would guesstimate 3 mpg at 25 mph (~ 4200rpm). What’s that ~ 8 gph? My typical load is 2 folks + fishing gear so ~ 600#? Very pleased but for what I paid I’d better be!

Very Nice.  I have a '99 225 Explorer and want to repower to a Suzuki.  What HP did you end up going with?  Ballpark price paid to upgrade?

I went economical with the 200hp (4 cyl). Plenty of oomp for what I do, and sips gas.

West marine sells hatch pulls that should work for your fish box. As far as the vent cover if it is on the walkaround starboard side I would say that is where the horn and its cover should mount.
