Osprey 210 / let me vent
« on: July 02, 2021, 07:54:13 AM »
This is a good place for me to vent. I bought a 2005 Osprey 210 in good shape. I didn’t love it but it fit the bill and seemed like a decent deal.
The designers of this boat never had to replace a bilge pump, fitting, bait/ washdown pump, or electrical anything.
I could not replace the thru-hull inlet ball valve. Asked my mechanic to replace it when it was winterized. He told me he pulled the motor off to get access to it. Really? You designed a boat with such limited access. You need to be a double jointed elf to replace anything below deck.

Yeah we've seen more and more problems with things like bilge pumps, thru hulls, macerators since the big high sided liners started to be used. The 210 is designed to be sealed off above deck to below deck.

So the options are cut in pie plate access holes or larger rectangular hatches. Some of the boats that have baitwells had to lift the wells out and cut an access panel in behind that to access things - not fun.

Do you leave the seacock open all the time now? If something weird happened ( like hose got blown off of it) and you needed to shut it off what would you do?

First and last year they were built.
Must have been tough on those working both on the line and in design as they saw the end closing in on them.
You vent.
Some, like myself lament on a lost marque that we grew up with in So. Fla.

Good luck. :thumright:

If that was addressed to my post I always leave it closed .... I exercise it once or twice during the season
I’m not using the live well as part of fishing habits (plugging)

And how do you get to the seacock?

There is a longer handle extension so I can get to it via pie plate. Even though I replaced the salt wash down pump that is shared with the live well  As part of the to do list at time of repower i use neither. That how much of a pia this is.
