Mercrusier 470 leaking piston
«

I recently purchased a 1980, 23' family fisherman cuddy cabin.
She has a newer Mercrusier 470 in her not sure of year, I believe the out drive to be the original MC1.
I have one piston that has a lite leak.
I can not find any cross reference to see if Alpha one Gen 1 will work with the MC1.
Trim pistons for the Gen 1 are a dime a dozen 🤔 however I CANNOT find a MC1 trim piston.
So after my rambling lol will an Alpha one Gen 1 trim piston work on a MC1?
Thanks in advance
Russell.

Is the gland seal leaking oil by the rod? Resealing is the best bet as long as the rod isn’t pitted or damaged.

You mean the trim/tilt piston is leaking right? Often with a 470 an engine piston might be leaking! These engines break pistons with some frequency - so at least you are not dealing with that!
The cylinder rebuild kit should be part # 87068 (eBAy for about $15) and the cylinder part # 87173 (eBay for under $100).
Good luck and keep that 470 under 4000 RPM and you should be OK! BTW - does yours have an upgraded alternator? If not, you should consider it.
See ya on the water!

Thanks for the input, found someone on ebay who was will to talk to me on phone I have 2 new pistons, hoses and bushings coming Saturday.
The one piston had some pitting which started to leak under pressure.
I was told run boat at 3000 rpm and she will go until she runs out of gas.
I know it has a newer 470 in it with an Alpha One out drive.
Motor and compartment are clean and boat fires and runs nicely.
I've read about the alternator, I know this boat is running a permanent magneto now.
I am going to run her a few more times this fall for puffers, crabs and stripers before closing her up to begin with the beautification process.
I'm sure many questions will arise and hopefully pictures will be easier to post.
Thanks again

There's a conversion kit to replace the original charging design to a conventional exposed and easily serviced charging system.
