Repowering 72 19-6
« on: May 28, 2020, 03:05:53 PM »
Hey all We are looking for a used motor for our '72 19-6. It currently has an 80's model mercury 140HP inline 6. The capacity plate says max HP is 140, and max weight 1000. In our area we are finding 90-hp and 150+hp motors. I am wondering if the boat could handle a 150HP motor. Any advice would be appriciated.

well I found this motor listed today. 2011 etec 130 hp (Bad cylinder) $1700. Cylinder has scarring on the inside but the motor will start and run
The owner says
"I was running it and when i shut down I noticed it was a little louder than normal. I took it to the marina. He stuck bore scope in it and we saw scarring. He thinks injector may have washed it out.  One way or another the rings are bad."
I was thinking about boring and putting a new piston in it. What do you all think?

I am not a motorhead so I have no advice. My 90 Evinrude puked (roller bearings) so I bought a reman'd powerhead.

The Suzuki DF140 is a nice match for that boat.
