170 CC with Bracket?
« on: August 01, 2020, 08:58:23 PM »

Just came across this when doing a web search.   Don't these boats ride terribly if you even move the console back too much?
With a heavy 4 stroke Honda and that long bracket, won't this have a TERRIBLE ride?

Thoughts?

Saw this rig on Craigslist at least a year ago....is it still for sale??!!  The bracket is the most ridiculous addition to a 170 I’ve ever seen.  I have no doubt this rig has porpoise issues, which I reckon would be countered with trim tabs, but doesn’t have installed.  And Honda OBs are heavier than all other manufacturers of same HP.  The ride in that rig must be atrocious.

I don’t think you could unhook from tow vehicle and that Honda would be on the ground

Some poor sucker is going to like the looks, trust the owner and buy without a sea trial, and get stuck with it.   In fact, it's possible that this is the second or third person to buy this boat and then try to unload it on CList.    I doubt even giant trim tabs would fix that crazy imbalance.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking.   It's too bad, as it looks like a nice boat, a nice engine, and a nice bracket, but putting them all together is a disaster.
Crazy.

^^^ Agreed...good point.  Thill is spot on....nice hull/engine/bracket, just not a good choice to combine.

You know, I have seen large flotation brackets that follow the angle of the bottom, and go full width that effectively extend the hull.   If this were one of those, maybe it would work.   But this doesn't look like one of those.
