195 Osprey DC

 Hi All,

Sorry...originally posted this to Electrical which the wrong place. Clearly my first time posting here. Thanks to the moderators for curating this great resource. I am trying to buy a 1995 195 Osprey Dual Console. We had the sea trial today the boat failed in a couple ways. The prop was too small so the boat struggled to plane (2006 Suzuki 150). The RPMs were cranked and we were not getting enough power. Boat yard is gonna sort out the prop issue. We also need to sort out whether the previous owner was using the boat all along with the wrong prop. More to come on that...but I think I can navigate that aspect of this purchase.

I was hoping you guys could chime in on wood rot. Overall the deck feels great. The middle area right above the gas tank is not solid but it feels elastic (and compared to other boats I have been looking at...it is not a concern). It's not mushy.

There are hatches to each of the dual consoles. There are also hatches in the seats on the bow. The wood on the deck that can be accessed via those hatches is rotten. It's not awful but I'm worried about it. The broker from the marina said that this wood is not structural. He was not concerned about it. I trust this guy but also want second opinions before I close. Based on the catalog...I guess the stringers are not wood so the overall hull is solid? http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=5729&title=1995-catalog-pg02&cat=628

It's an old boat and I get that there's gonna be some rot and a little clean up. I am not afraid of a $1-2k down the line but do not want to buy a boat that is only going to last 3 years and then be totalled.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

All the best,
Hunter
