22'2 Aquasport (flatback) bare hull weight?
« on: December 03, 2006, 07:39:40 PM »
thanks to  all the reply's on my former question regarding the Osprey. I have a point to ponder with you all. someone responded to the hull weight as being 1,800 lbs. I was inquiring about a Flatbacks weight. Now as far back as I can research that is the correct weight for the "deepV" version) Signifacnt weight is added to the hull when converting to a deep v version. Thus the added allowable HP. My 1970 Osprey has a maximum HP rating of 150 HP. The deep V  version is rated for 235 HP. Also my Osprey has 2 30 Gal. gas tanks while the V version has a capacity of 80 GALS. I just can't see how both hulls would weight the same. Does anyone know the actual weight of the Flatbacks bare hull? I'd like to share something I read several years ago, regarding "flat bottom vs. "deep V" As far as i know tell the major selling point for the deep V is that you can go thru a chop at a good rate of speed. The flatbottom would have to go slower or suffer a much rougher ride. Here is the kicker, when the seas realy act up a deep V will also have to slow and in doing so becomes a displacement hull, and wallows just like everybody else. The flat bottom boat in this sceniaro would give a faster & smoother ride because of its big wide bottom giving it more stability. Its also a lot more economical to operate. Thats what I read. Went back through some old Aquasport articles I have and found the weight. Bare boat was 1650 pounds according to a 1966 review of the 22-2.  Hope this helps.
