'Rude offers 2 different 150 Etec G2 models - the 3 cylinder and the V6. The 3 cylinder is a 1.9L and the V6 is a 2.7L - and both make the same power at the shaft?
Getting 150HP with decent torque out of 1.9L is a challenge! But it would be easy with the 2.7L in a V6. I think you would find a 22-2 underpowered with the 3 cylinder G2, but the V6 would work very well on that boat. There's just no replacement for displacement.
BTW - Suzuki gets 200HP out of 4 cylinders on their 4-stroke DF200A, but with a displacement of 2.8L. That's a big 4 cylinder and big bores make big torque. Mercury ain't making 2-strokes any more, but their 150s now are all 3.0L. The discontinued 2-stoke Optimax 150 was a 2.5L V6. You may be able to find a new 150 Opti still at a dealer at a very good price and there are lots of used and rebuilds out there as well. Any of these would seem a good choice for a 22-2.
